Women With Migraines Are More Inclined To Be Depressed
You with headache, in particular migraines, are more prone to be depressed, feel fatigued, and have a host of other hard physical symptoms, according to a medical trial published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
The clinical investigation involved 1010 patients who buy cymbalta at headache clinics in four different countries. Of the patient surveyed, 262 reported occasional headache (less than 15 headaches per month) and 665 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the patient were diagnosed with migraines.
The clinical trial found patients with chronic headache were four times more prone than those with episodic headache to report symptoms of major Atypical Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also four times more likely to report a high degree of symptoms related to headache, pain or problems during intercourse.
Among people tested with severely disabling migraine, the medical study found the likelihood of major Major Depression increased 32-fold if the people also reported other severe symptoms.
“Painful physical symptoms can agitate or be a manifestation of major Depression in woman with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy maxalt online and Psychotic Depression should heighten pain perception,” said study author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This relation between migraine and major Manic Depression suggests a ordinary neurobiology.”
Tietjen says medical research are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Depression could be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.
“Heedless of what’s causing the relation between migraine and Manic Depression, psychiatric disorder such as Psychotic Depression complicates headache treatment and can call forth poorer result for headache treatment,” said Tietjen.
The clinical study was countenanced, in part, by the American Headache Society, which judges 18 million American man suffer from headache.
The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 16000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to making better patients care through education and medical study. A neurologist is a osteopath with specialized training in monitoring, treating and managing diseases of the brain and nervous system such as apoplexy, Alzheimer’s sickness, epilepsy, Parkinson disorder, and repeated sclerosis.
